KENNETH J. JANOWSKI, VICE-PRESIDENT

Professional Responsibility

Mr. Janowski is a Vice-President of the Medicare Retainer division with responsibility for clients located in the Western United States, several large healthcare systems and selected other clients. His clients include hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, home offices and other healthcare entities. Mr. Janowski has overseen engagements for several large Provider systems including Carondelet Health Network. In addition, he also directly provides a full range of Medicare reimbursement services such as cost report preparation/review, Medicare audits, PRRB appeals, wage index calculations/audit support, feasibility studies, etc.

Background and Experience

Mr. Janowski has been with SRI since 1983, though his healthcare reimbursement experience dates back to 1971 - just six years after the creation of the Medicare program. He has functioned as engagement manager for a variety of financial consulting projects including:

  • Preparation/Review of Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Cross Cost Reports
  • Prior-Year Medicare, Medicaid Cost Report Compliance Reviews
  • Wage Index Studies
  • Bad Debt Logs Preparation/Review
  • PRRB Appeals

  • Group Appeals
  • Budget and contractual allowance projections
  • Physician contract review and profitability analysis

Prior to joining SRI, Mr. Janowski was a Field Audit Manager for Blue Cross of Chicago. In this capacity he had full audit and reimbursement responsibilities for approximately 90 hospitals, home health agencies and skilled nursing facilities.

Mr. Janowski was instrumental in the national development of self-insurance arrangements and staff training seminar engagements. Additionally, Mr. Janowski chaired the Fiscal Intermediarys task force for the development of desk and field audit procedures for the numerous reimbursement revisions of the Medicare regulations.

Professional Credentials

Mr. Janowski graduated cum laude from Indiana University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accountancy. In 1978, he received an M.B.A with distinction from DePaul University. In addition, he received an M.D.S in Management from the University of Chicago in 1980. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
